Printed specifications for highway improvement, 1904.

This series contains printed specifications formulated by the State Engineer and Surveyor for the improvement of highways in the state. The specification booklets contain prescribed requirements for all aspects of highway construction from excavation, preparation, and selection of materials, to the actual construction of roadways, bridges, and other adjoining structures. Though consisting mainly of specifications applicable to all projects, booklets also include the State Engineer and Surveyor's estimates of quantities of materials required for each specific project.

Legislation of 1903 directed the State Engineer and Surveyor and the Superintendent of Public Works to improve the Erie, Oswego, and Champlain canals.
